National Orange Day is a celebration of the founding of Syracuse University. The alumni associations are asked to participate in some sort of community service in their region. This year, B’more Orange opted to spend the day at BARCS (Baltimore Animal Rescue and Care Shelter) in the Pigtown area of Baltimore.
After a brief tour of the facility with its manager Joe, the B’more Orange team marched outside with rakes, shovels, and black bags in hand to tidy up around the exterior of the building. We also were able to transport a puppy named Gracie to a shelter in Washington, D.C. for adoption. One of our members even adopted a dog from BARCS.
Though BARCS is a young organization, they do amazing work in the Baltimore area. If you’re interested in a pet or helping out at the facility, please visit their website here. In fact, the dog pictured above is available from BARCS.You can find many of their adoptable pets looking for their forever homes on their website or on their Petfinder.com page.
